Guidelines for Parish Weddings

You have chosen to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage at St. Rita Church and we welcome you! To assist with your preparation these guidelines may be helpful.

Below you will find a checklist of things you need to prepare for prior to your wedding. We hope this will  make planning for your wedding a more enjoyable and less stressful experience.

Preparation

___ FOCCUS Marriage Readiness Questionnaire

___Initial appointment to fill out questionnaire (45 min). Approximately six months prior to wedding.

___Follow up conference to discuss results (45 min). Approximately 2 weeks after first appointment. More conferences to be added if needed.

___ Time of Weddings. Weddings take place no later than 1:30 PM on Saturday.

___ Engaged Encounter Weekend. It is the responsibility of the couple to schedule this through the Family Life Office at 965-5011. Schedule is also available at the Chancery Office.

___ Select Music for your wedding under the guidance of the Coordinator of Music at 398-6483 or by calling the Parish Office at 398-0853.

___ Liturgy Planning involves another meeting with the Priest to plan wedding and choose readings, etc.

___ Rehearsal usually takes place on the Friday evening before the wedding date at 6:00 PM. Please call the office at 398-0853 well in advance to reserve the Church.

___ All Fees and your Marriage License must be turned in to the church office at least two weeks before your wedding.

Rehearsal

This is a time of great joy for you and your entire wedding party as you gather in Church to rehearse for your wedding. We ask the Bride and Groom to remind everyone involved to show reverence for Our Lord present on the altar. Proper respect is expected during the entire time the Wedding Party is in the Sanctuary. It is also important to have your Wedding Party arrive on time.

Bridal Party

Once again, the Bridal Party will be expected to display proper respect while in Church and on Church grounds. This means no food, drink or gum chewing. No alcohol is permitted anywhere on the Church grounds either before, during, or after the wedding. Attendants should be dressed in clothing that is appropriate for a Church wedding. Children involved in the Bridal Party who are less than 6 years old should be seated with a parent/guardian after they process into Church.

Guest Arrival and Departure

Most guests arrive within 20 minutes before the start of the wedding. Signing a guest book as guests enter the Church can slow up the seating process and delay the wedding. Please do not plan to have a guest book signed at Church.

There are two options for guest departure. You may have a receiving line in the vestibule or outside the Church although this will shorten your after-wedding picture time. If you decide on a receiving line, the bridal party and guests will exit the East doors (Bridge).

The second option is no receiving line. If you are not having a receiving line, the bridal party will exit by the West door and go into the bride’s room. Guests will be ushered out the East doors by wedding ushers. Please remember no rice, birdseed, rose petals or other "thrown objects" are permitted before, during, or after the wedding.

Photographers and Videographers

The Church will be open two hours prior to the wedding for set up and pre-wedding pictures. All photography must be completed and equipment removed from the Church by 3:30 PM due to 4:30 PM Mass.

Pictures may be taken in Church using natural light. No additional lights, umbrellas or screens may be set up. Pictures may be taken only in the Sanctuary area or outdoors. Studio type portraits of bride and groom or bridal party should be taken at the studio or the reception.

During the wedding ceremony or Mass, the photographer is to show proper respect for the religious rites. Photographers are not permitted to be on the slate area surrounding the altar during the wedding, and are expected to remain stationary during the Mass or ceremony.

Videographers are limited to two cameras. No additional microphones may be taped or placed anywhere in Church. Videographers may not "plug into" the existing sound system of the parish. No video editing equipment is allowed in Church. Again, videographers must remain stationary during the Mass or ceremony.

Florists

Since the center aisle of the Church is carpeted, no aisle runners are allowed. Pew bows are permitted, but must be attached to pews using plastic clips (located in the usher's closet in the sanctuary narthex). Please return clips when finished.

Parish liturgical season decorations (Advent Wreath, Easter Flowers, etc.) are not to be removed. Flowers can be placed in front of ambo (pulpit) and on the Unity candle table. Only low floral arrangements are allowed on the corners of the altar front. Flowers may be presented to parents at the Sign of Peace, and to the Blessed Virgin Mary after Communion.

Wedding Fees

All fees need to be paid in the Church office 2 weeks prior to the wedding.  Please contact the church office (398-0853) for the current fees.

This brochure is a guideline and does not contain all the regulations that govern our wedding ceremonies. Please call the parish office if you have any questions. We wish to help you make your marriage ceremony a blessed and memorable event.
